1223: Points for Honesty Despite Ignorance?
March 25, 2010So what’s the event today that has the Integrated School set up a stage in front of the hedge maze and the statue of the founder in the One Mission Park? It’s sad that I cannot be sure.
It shows just how detached the college is from the IS that I do not know, although I do know that their year-end Eucharistic celebration, on the last day of their final exams, was at 1130am.
Okay, I suspect that it was the recognition ceremony for the lower grades (not the graduating batch) although that would mean that the teachers rushed the computation of the standings of ten grade levels plus kinder one and kinder two. So maybe it is the graduation of Grade 11, since they should have ended their classes earlier than today, as is the habit with other schools.
Wow, I would consider it a testament to how far the candidness of this writing has become (again supposed to be something demonstrated to the students of how easy it is to write online original content) that even a certain level of ignorance (as long as it is accompanied by logical speculation) can occupy several paragraphs.
@@ The Student Council today passed a letter to the Dean asking for a special general assembly tomorrow from 1120 a.m. to 1250 p.m. to discuss the alternatives to the meager elections, which finally now includes the postponement of the elections to the first few weeks of the first term.
The dean denied the request though, saying that the general assembly can be held on Tuesday next week during university break.
The president of the SC also asked if the student body decides to have the election during the thirteenth week of classes, would the dean allow it.
She said no, citing the real unbreakable wall of students needing to concentrate on their academics during that week and the fourteenth week, therefore parents cannot blame the teachers or the office of student affairs for allowing the students distractions from their studies and final requirements when it is needed.
I am also a bit apprehensive (just a bit, though) about what if the students choose the first option, which is to remove the grade point average requirements for candidates. Would the administration allow it when the possibility increases that the parents would blame us for the students getting lower grades because of their immersion or involvement in student activities over their academics?
And believe me, it is a trend for all student leaders that their GPA does go down after being active in the Student Council or their organization, which is why we have the buffer zone of the higher grade in the first place, as well as the commitment letter from the students that they agree to step down if there is a drastic change in their grades after having been sworn into position.
@@ At least, compared to the previous days, I am somewhat more proud now than before that finally the focus of the posts here for the recent days have been student activities, even though it is already winding down.
Although, again in the spirit of honesty I did watch The Hurt Locker last night in Festival Mall with Engineer Leland and graduating student EJ.
Will I post a full or at least half entry review about it? I don’t know. I guess even though it was engaging, and highly recommendable, I believe that it is the kind of movie where the people have to see it for themselves. No amount of description (good or bad) will, in my experience, do the film justice, since I have not even watched Jarhead in full, and my last middle east war movie was The Three Kings.
