1068: Giving In to the Instinct to Whine
July 6, 2009I wanted to have been able to post this last Saturday, but I was busy with non school things.
Last Friday news spread like butter (didn’t want to use the cliché) among the college students about the Integrated School having no classes Monday and Tuesday to have their rooms disinfected.
Of course the students thought it was unfair. They also bandied around their misinformation that there was going to be fumigation, and that they would be affected by it.
Truth is, fumigation was done on Sunday. So that excuse not to hold classes fizzled out.
The dean explained that the reason for the cancellation of classes was that several teachers and an alarming number of students as reported by the clinic had the seasonal flu.
Rather than overwork the possible substitute teachers and lower their immune systems as well, everyone was given four days (including the weekend) to recuperate.
Students say they have a lot of sick cases too. Why don’t they report to the clinic, as mandated?
Because they don’t want to be sent home and have to make up for their missed classes, they say. So if they don’t want to miss any classes, why are they clamoring for class suspension?
@@ Daily Leadership Lesson July 4: Great leaders see a clear and preferred picture of the future without prompting from others. They have passion to see the vision come true even in the face of opposition.
My take on this: again, just because you face opposition doesn’t mean that you are a great leader with a pure vision.
At some point you have to examine what you are doing and look at it from the point of view of the other people.
Maybe they are right and you are wrong. Maybe you have selfish motives masquerading as idealism.
@@ July 5: QUESTIONS TO PONDER: 1. Does my life reflect my values? 2. What do I want my life to be about? 3. Do I either know the direction I want my life to go OR have sufficient faith in a higher power to trust that I do not need to know?
My take on this: Again, knowing what you want doesn’t necessarily mean you are right.
@@July 6: You are the only one - but you are one, and one person can make a difference. – Anonymous
My take on this: Well, Adolf Hitler was one person. So it’s a question of whether you will make a good difference or bad difference. I really don’t like vague lessons like this.
