1067: Vicious Cycle of Error Messages
July 3, 2009The computers in the student lounge (three of them) are now up for the students’ use.
There’s no internet though, so far that they still have to go to the computer lab or ask friends with WIFI capabilities.
And by that I mean friends with laptops that have WIFI capabilities, not that the friends can access the ether directly with their brains, like that one-time character in “Heroes”.
@@ It’s irritating when the operating system automatically updates software for you, then says that another application is making your system crash so add-ons are disabled.
To upgrade that application, though, you would need first to enable the other add-ons, then when it has been downloaded, you are told that it is not a valid 32-bit application.
And what’s all this about “compatibility view”; so much for intuitive readers and displays.
Sometimes it’s just as good to settle for a version of technology that worked well because I am already very familiar with it, and can work around its kinks. And there might have been thousands (I doubt millions) out there who asked for these so-called improvements and automatic features, but I sure as hell wasn’t one of them.
@@ On a side note, what’s with hell being a cuss word? I hope there are none out there who are offended with my use of that word in the paragraph above. It’s not like I’m cursing someone “go to hell” as much as “damn you”. No mumbling over a button for me.
There are just some people who restrict themselves too much that they don’t LIVE life anymore, but always shake their heads at what other people shouldn’t be doing or worse, judge and not forgive, and if that’s the case, I believe they’re just a waste of space.
@@ Daily Leadership Lesson July 3: Don’t waste time talking about others and discussing whose fault it is - invest your time intro productive and creative thinking. - Dan Reiland
My take on this: it’s obvious. Blame storming and gossip just digs you deeper into the hole and doesn’t raise the stakes.
I’m reminded, because of the previous topic before the lesson, of some members of a religious group that I once overheard, talking about the lives of some of their neighbors.
There was some tongue clicking, and they discuss all of the details, but as far as I can see, there was no improvement beyond being self-righteous that their lives weren’t like that.
Or worse, they’re thankful that their secret sins aren’t discovered. But I’d rather that they just prayed for that “erring” fellow traveler on this spaceship Earth. That’s at least constructive.
