1066: Something In The Air

July 2, 2009  (peacee0)

My cousin, who just went to Thailand, asked me if shopping is really cheap in Taipei.

I didn’t answer her question, but in my reply text I said, “I want to go with you!” which should be clear.

@@ The last two nights of thunderstorms were nice and a bother consecutively. This is because the first one was far enough away that we could see the lightning, but not hear the thunder.

And because of the lack of tall buildings around, it is possible to get a view of the looming clouds that spans half the sky.

Just seeing the lightning crossing horizontally is awesome. Maybe next I’ll try to photograph it.

Or maybe I’ll take a video. There might be hidden images in those shadows, just like in the first Hulk movie.

@@ A day later the second one was almost on top of us here at the school, and almost followed me on the way home.

And as expected this created a situation in the commuting terminal where there were more people in line than vehicles, and just as the first two rides in front of me sped off in a matter of minutes, the third vehicle I was in took quite a while to fill up.

This is just one of the situations in life where you have to think of a camera recording your life (like the Truman Show) and that it’s best to put up a brave front than pout.

@@ I’ve spoken here before (or in the previous incarnation) about the irritation of file sharing sites.

It turns out that Weird Al shares the annoyance, particularly because all these people who edit the information about the songs in their possession attribute any parody song to him.

This is even though the song is racist or crude. I read about it on Wikipedia, by the way.

That’s like reading gossip, but not anything you can take to the bank or pass to your teacher as an assignment. Those are still best taken from reliable sources like scientific journals.

@@ Daily Leadership Lesson July 2: Evaluate your own leadership by turning around and see if anyone is following you.

My take on this: not necessarily the best indicator. There are many reasons why someone would follow you.

Bribery, blackmail, gullibility are among that list. The question here is, if you as a follower knew someone else with your same intention as a leader, would you follow or would your own sense of selfishness and ego that pervades your purposes conflict and prevent you?

  1. OE Says:

It’s not just in Wikipedia that Weird Al is irked about having profane, potty-mouthed, and generally tasteless parodies attributed to him. He’s said so in many interviews.

And besides, if people download his stuff from file sharing sites, he won’t be able to afford his next solid gold Humvee.
